UNIT 7. / PRAHLAD BUBBAR DEBUTS AT INDIA ART FAIR 2025 WITH A DYNAMIC CONTEMPORARY SHOWCASE

Unit 7. / Prahlad Bubbar is delighted to announce its inaugural participation in the India Art Fair, Delhi 2025 with an extraordinary exhibition that brings together the works of three internationally acclaimed contemporary artists: Shubha Taparia, Mohamed Monaiseer, and Marta Roberti. This thoughtfully curated presentation explores powerful themes of materiality, transformation, cultural memory, and the intricate relationships between humanity, nature, and mythology.

The works of Taparia, Monaiseer, and Roberti converge to create an exhibition that is both visually striking and conceptually profound. Each artist’s practice is rooted in their distinct cultural and artistic traditions, yet they share an affinity for exploring the ephemeral and the enduring, the material and the spiritual.

Shubha Taparia (1975) was born in Ahmedabad, India; lives and works in London, United Kingdom, since 2001. Taparia is a postgraduate from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (2007). Her work explores the material force in her own compilations of ‘the everyday’ and the urban environment, representations of history, transition and power are brought to the forefront in all their irony and precariousness. Taparia has developed a distinctive practice that spans photography, film, mixed media, and installation, often drawing on urban environments and everyday materials. Her works resonate across cultures and invite reflections on modern life. Recognised internationally, her pieces are held in private and institutional collections, including the recent acquisition of Transitional Weaves 1 (Illumination series) by Museum für Asiatische Kunst at the Humboldt Forum, Berlin.

Taparia’s mixed media panels Transitional Weaves form the latest chapter in her “Illumination” series, 2010-ongoing. In a laborious and time-consuming process Taparia applies synthetic gold-leaf sheets by hand onto the surface of dark tarpaulin, a water-resistant material often found on construction sites as a temporary cover to protect the architecture as well as other building materials. The resulting shine enhances the idea of highlighting the material, whilst fiberglass is applied at the back to solidify them. A selection of Taparia’s photographic “Illumination” work will also be presented, this series objectifies her desire to restore by patching the crumbling façade of buildings with gold, a precious metal that acts a symbol for transformation in various cultures around the world.

Originating from Cairo, Egypt, Mohamed Monaiseer’s (1989) work delves into the spiritual dimensions of human experience. Monaiseer received his BA in Educational Art and MFA from Cairo University, and held a residency at the Delfina Foundation, London in 2019. His intricate, hand-painted canvases and textile installations transform symbolic forms into meditative landscapes. However, Monaiseer’s symbols, applied with ink and acrylic, are illegible and void of any meaning. The textile pieces Untitled (Muted series) and Untitled (Talisman series) can be understood as poetic mind maps, in which the artist almost obsessively repeats forms, symbols and patterns to visualise the passing of time:

What I’ve created is calligraphy that cannot be decoded, leading to a paradox, for what you see are words, but words that cannot be read or decrypted. Therefore, they can only be taken in through one’s soul rather than one’s mental concept to experience the essence of this project’ is how the artist describes his practice.

Rome-based artist Marta Roberti (1977) degree in philosophy from the University of Verona and a diploma in film and video from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Through representations of women and animals, self-portraits and fragments of virgin landscapes, she explores the relationship between East and West and their myths. By deconstructing notions of ego and reinterpreting classical narratives, she invites viewers to consider new perspectives on existence and the collective unconscious. Her works resonate with a timeless sense of curiosity and introspection, making them deeply relevant in today’s world. Her most recent exhibition entitled Rivelazioni at the Museo di Sant’Orsola in Florence.

The booth by Unit 7. / Prahlad Bubbar will invite viewers to explore the interplay of materials, forms, and ideas across these three distinct yet complementary practices. The exhibition’s carefully curated arrangement transforms the space into a site of contemplation, where shimmering industrial textures meet symbolic abstractions and mythological narratives, in-turn bridging the material and the ephemeral, the local and the global.
